The Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Columbia has an opening for an Investigator. Salary based upon experience, within federal guidelines. The Federal Public Defender operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, to provide defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in the federal courts in Washington, D.C.
The investigator provides support in case preparation by gathering relevant data and court records, serving subpoenas, locating and interviewing witnesses, writing reports, photographing scenes, and testifying in court. The position requires some travel for investigation, hearings, and training. It also requires flexibility in work schedule.
Qualified applicants must possess: a valid driver’s license; a good driving record; an understanding of criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence; good judgment; an ability to prepare concise and accurate written and oral reports of investigative findings; and personal computer skills.
